Summary of Educational Program

Child development relies on multiple components that, in relation to their environment, allow them to progress and acquire significant capabilities. Through our educational program, we convey values that help children flourish in society and build strong self-esteem. Our educational program is based on: self-respect, respect for the environment and others, self-esteem, non-discrimination, self-control, self-discipline, and cooperation.

Our mission is to provide a warm, safe, and highly engaging environment. Our educational program is founded on principles based on various themes, and we implement the “Accueillir la petite enfance” program.

The educational program proposed by the Ministry “Accueillir la petite enfance” aims to promote the educational quality of childcare services by guiding the interventions of educational staff, ensuring consistency in childcare interventions in continuity with other educational services and families.

Basic Principles of the Educational Program

Each child is unique, and educational activities are designed to respect their developmental pace, specific needs, and individual interests.
The child is the main agent of their own development. This process originates within them, fueled by their intrinsic abilities and personal motivation.

Educators act as guides, supporting and encouraging each child to progress toward greater autonomy while finding a balance between guidance and independence.
Child development is holistic and encompasses several dimensions of growth, including emotional, fine and gross motor, social and moral, cognitive, and linguistic aspects. Activities aim to nurture each of these facets harmoniously.

Collaboration between educational staff and parents is essential to ensure the child’s harmonious development. Together, we create an environment conducive to their growth and well-being.

Play

The educational program places significant emphasis on play, recognizing it as the best tool for each child to explore, understand, and engage with the world. Play is considered an essential medium for self-expression, comprehension, and integration, making it a cornerstone of the child’s development.
Through play, children grow and achieve across multiple dimensions. It takes various forms—solitary, parallel, cooperative, symbolic, or constructive—each contributing uniquely to their learning. Whether the play involves simple or complex rules, all forms are encouraged because they offer valuable opportunities for growth.
When playing with construction toys, children learn about balance and spatial awareness. By engaging in games with rules, they develop essential social skills required for group interactions and collaborative life.
Play is not only a source of joy but also a vital educational tool that helps children develop holistically while discovering the world around them.

Implementation of the Educational Program

At Garderie Diamants de Somerled, we apply the basic principles of the educational program taking into account our context, resources and the opportunities offered by our environment.
We adapt the program to the child’s age and to the time of the day during which the child attends the service.
The daily program is balanced with games that are played indoors and outdoors (except in cases of inclement weather), active and quiet games, individual and group activities, small group and large group activities, while always ensuring the health, safety and well being of the children.

Educators and Parents

Through their skills and expertise, the educational staff guide children’s games and activities.
The children are offered what they need to engage in games of all kinds and according to the tastes and possibilities of each.
They support the children and encourage them throughout the day in the games they frequently engage in, and as they imagine new games. They indirectly guide what a child learns from a situation he himself or she herself has created.
Through observation, critical information is collected and recorded to support the children’s activities and development.

The educational program recognizes parents as the first educators of their children. Parents are in the best position to assist the educational staff in meeting the needs of their children by providing useful information on their children and by attending parent meetings.

Developmental Dimensions of the Child

Our daycare operates with annual themes, revised each year, and our activities aim to support the overall and harmonious development of the child, fostering their full growth across all dimensions of their being:

The Emotional Dimension: Meeting the child’s emotional needs is just as vital as addressing their physical needs.

The Physical and Motor Dimension: This dimension refers to the child’s physiological, physical, sensory, and motor needs.

The Social and Moral Dimension: The daycare environment provides children with the opportunity to build relationships with others, express and regulate their emotions, empathize with others, and solve problems.

The Cognitive Dimension: A stimulating environment allows the child to develop their senses, acquire new knowledge and skills, and deepen their understanding of the world around them.

The Language Dimension: Language development and symbolic representation are strengthened through group interactions.
