  • Summary of Educational Program
    • The educational program proposed by the MFA has a triple mission: To ensure the well-being, the health and the safety of the children who are entrusted to us, to offer children a clean living environment that stimulates these developments: emotional, social, moral, cognitive, linguistic, physical and motor, from their birth to their entry to school. The educational program aims to promote unified democratic interventions with children and their families.
  • Basic Principles of the Educational Program
    • Each child is unique, and the proposed educational activities are intended to meet each child's pace of development, needs and interests.
    • The child is the first agent of his or her development, that is to say that development is drawn from within: intrinsic aptitudes and motivation. The educators guide each child's work and support him or her to move towards greater autonomy.
    • The development of the child is global and integrated and touches many dimensions of his or her person: emotional, fine and gross motor, social and moral, cognitive and language.
    • The collaboration between educational staff and parents is essential for the harmonious development of the child.
  • Developmental Dimensions of the Child
    • Emotional dimension: Each child learns to establish trusting relationships with adults, in addition to his or her parents, to express and to control emotions, to adapt to life changes and transitions, to have confidence in himself or herself and to develop his or her personal and gender identities.
    • Physical and Motor dimension: Each child develops his or her sensory perception, global and fine motor skills, coordination, lateralization and body image.
    • Social and Moral dimension: Each child learns to get along with peers, join a group, respect differences, cooperate, and exercise leadership and to take into account the perspective of others before acting.
    • Cognitive dimension: Each child learns to organize himself or herself in space and time, to organize his or her thoughts, reason, deduce, and understand the world around him or her and to solve problems.
    • Linguistic dimension: Each child learns to understand and express themselves through spoken language. They develop vocabulary and phonological awareness. They also learn to express themselves with his or her body and through the arts: drawing, mime, song, dance, theatre, etc... Lastly he or she awakens to the culture around, especially in reading, writing and storytelling.
  • Play
    • The educational program inevitably places an emphasis on play. For each child, this is the best instrument for exploring the world, understanding it and controlling it. It is therefore regarded as an essential tool of expression, understanding and integration of the child.
    • Play allows each child to grow and achieve on all fronts and it can take several forms. Whether solitary, parallel, cooperative, symbolic, or construction play, with simple or with complex rules, all forms of play are favoured because they lead to different learning. Playing with construction toys, the child discovers the laws of equilibrium. By playing games with rules, the child learns social skills essential to group life.
  • Implementation of the Educational Program
    • At Garderie Diamants de Somerled, we apply the basic principles of the educational program taking into account our context, resources and the opportunities offered by our environment. We adapt the program to the child's age and to the time of the day during which the child attends the service.
    • The daily program is balanced with games that are played indoors and outdoors (except in cases of inclement weather), active and quiet games, individual and group activities, small group and large group activities, while always ensuring the health, safety and well being of the children.
  • Educational Staff
    • Through their skills and expertise, the educational staff guide children's games and activities. The children are offered what they need to engage in games of all kinds and according to the tastes and possibilities of each. They support the children and encourage them throughout the day in the games they frequently engage in, and as they imagine new games. They indirectly guide what a child learns from a situation he himself or she herself has created. Through observation, critical information is collected and recorded to support the children's activities and development.
  • Role of Parents
    • The educational program recognizes parents as the first educators of their children. Parents are in the best position to assist the educational staff in meeting the needs of their children by providing useful information on their children and by attending parent meetings.
